Hi people in the know at ASA:
The theme for our March–April Generations Today issue is Food and Our Relationship with Food, which will feature only personal narratives. We have multiple ideas, but there are three that I’d love to have written by ASA members. Please reach out to me if you’re interested in writing any of these pieces, I’d love to hear from you! abiggar@asaging.org
These are the ideas:
1. I’m looking for three short pieces (500-600 words) on Stories of the Food We Pass Down, How it Endures, How it Evolves
We’re hoping this would be three short pieces about special food traditions and cultures that were passed down and how they may have changed through the generations, and if the writer is continuing the tradition. Writers can be any age, as in this case it’s the passing down that matters.
2. The Psychology of Food: Positives and Negatives of Diet and Dieting Across a Long Life
This would be a personal story (or two) of lifetime difficulties with food (dieting, over- or compulsive eating) and how it has affected the author’s later life. This one can be written anonymously if necessary, just ping me directly if you're interested (abiggar@asaging.org).
3. Growing Up with Food Scarcity, Lifelong Impacts
This title is self-explanatory, but we’re looking for someone who struggled with never having enough food growing up and the lifelong psychological and physical impacts. Also how did it affect their current relationship with food? Also willing to have this one written anonymously as well.
Thanks much, I'm looking forward to seeing what you have to say.
