ASA Ageism and Culture Advisory Council is organizing ASA members to celebrate Ageism Awareness Day.

The most widespread and socially accepted form of prejudice, ageism, is defined by the World Health Organization as “the stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel) and discrimination (how we act) towards others or oneself based on age.” And because of this, we are determined to explore cultural views on aging and portrayals of aging at the individual, community, and national levels. To help combat this widespread form of prejudice, we need your help.

Members interested in participating can access tools to use, guidance on how to use them, and suggestions for ways to reach your community and others with this information. Click here to view the available tools.

We are reaching out to our members and allies to collaborate with us because together, we can make a difference. Ageism Awareness Day provides an opportunity to draw attention to the existence and impact of ageism in our society and how to reframe aging.
