Best way to get involved in a state's multisector plan for aging?

@Amy Herr and @Carrie Graham -- as more states announce MPAs, what advice do you have for ASA members who might want to get involved? Who could we reach out to, and how might we frame our messaging?

And members of this community -- if you've gotten involved in your state's MPA, can you share a little bit about how that happened?

    Thanks!
    Leanne

Hello all-- Our Northern California efforts began through a collaborative effort between the Center for Independent Living [CIL] (https://www.ilru.org/projects/cil-net/cil-center-and-association-directory), the Area Agency on Aging (https://eldercare.acl.gov/Public/About/Aging_Network/AAA.aspx), the State Council for Developmental Disabilities [SCDD] (https://acl.gov/programs/aging-and-disability-networks/state-councils-developmental-disabilities), and The SCAN Foundation (https://www.thescanfoundation.org/).

Every CIL has a federally mandated core responsibility to actively engage in Systems Change. The MPA focus on improving the systems that serve older adults and individuals with disabilities is a natural fit for this CIL objective. A possible starting place would be by connecting with your local CIL's Systems Change Advocate to determine what organizations and entities are actively involved with the MPA in your region.

I see that you have California contact information, and in this state, an additional excellent way to start engagement is through the California Collaborative for Long Term Services and Supports (https://www.ccltss.org/).

Sure hope this bit of information points you in a helpful starting direction. Always happy to engage conversation -- carolyn@actionctr.org

    In service.
